Levis in brief

Lévis watches Quebec City from the south shore of the St. Lawrence, linked by ferry and by the Quebec and Pierre-Laporte bridges. People lived at the Chaudière confluence for millennia; French seigneuries followed from 1636, with Guillaume Couture among the first settlers at Lauzon.

In 1759 General James Wolfe camped at Pointe-Lévy while besieging Quebec. The present city dates from a 2002 merger of ten municipalities, including the older Lévis founded in 1861.
