Amos in brief
Amos is the main town on the Harricana River and the seat of Abitibi Regional County Municipality. Among the three primary centres of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, it is the smallest after Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d'Or.
Colonization of the region kicked off from here in 1910. The municipality arrived in 1914; city status followed in 1925. The name honours the maiden name of the wife of Sir Lomer Gouin, then premier of Quebec. Neighbour towns Amos-Ouest and Amos-Est later folded in, and Saint-Félix-de-Dalquier joined in 2025.
