Drummondville in brief

Drummondville stands east of Montreal on the Saint-François River in Centre-du-Québec. Lieutenant-Colonel Frederick Heriot founded it in June 1815 as a home for British War of 1812 veterans and a guard point against American raids.

The name salutes Sir Gordon Drummond, lieutenant governor of Upper Canada from 1813 to 1816. The Hemmings Falls hydro dam of 1920 powered a new industrial wave, and a string of amalgamations from the 1950s through 2004 grew the city to about 79,000 people by 2021.
