Northern capital at two rivers
Lheidli T'enneh people, whose name means people of the confluence of the two rivers, made their home where the Fraser and Nechako meet. Simon Fraser planted the North West Company post of Fort George here in 1807, named for King George III.
Railway and forestry later built the modern city that British Columbians still call the northern capital for health care, campus life, and Interior services. Forest products and mining remain part of the paycheque mix.
