Squamish in brief

Squamish Nation people have lived at the head of Howe Sound for thousands of years; the district municipality shares the name and sits on the Sea to Sky Highway. The settler town began as a port and logging centre where mountains meet salt water.

Today about 24,000 people live in the census area. Climbers eye the Stawamus Chief, and the Sea to Sky Gondola lifts visitors for views of Howe Sound that make the drive from Vancouver feel worth every switchback.
