Cariboo gold-road town at two rivers
Dakelh (Southern Carrier) peoples lived around Quesnel long before the Cariboo Gold Rush, from the Bowron Lakes to the Blackwater and Dean rivers. The town takes its name from Jules-Maurice Quesnel, who travelled with Simon Fraser; locals once said Quesnelle Mouth to tell it apart from Quesnel Forks upstream.
Sitting at the Fraser and Quesnel rivers on the old Cariboo Wagon Road, it supplied Barkerville-bound traffic and still anchors the highway route between Prince George and Williams Lake. The census agglomeration now tops 23,000.

Quesnel is a city in the Cariboo Regional District of British Columbia, Canada.
Located nearly evenly between the cities of Prince George and Williams Lake, it is on the main route to northern British Columbia and the Yukon.
Quesnel is located at the confluence of the Fraser River and Quesnel River.
As of 2021, Quesnel's metropolitan area had a population of 23,113 making it one of the largest urban centres between Prince George and Kamloops.
