Vaughan

Humber Trail township that doubled fast

Vaughan in brief

Vaughan sits in York Region just north of Toronto and was Canada's fastest-growing municipality between 1996 and 2006, nearly doubling since 1991. Etienne Brule followed the Humber Trail through the area in 1615, long before townships were surveyed in 1792.

A sixteenth-century ancestral Wendat village near Pine Valley Drive once held about 2,000 people, close to an ossuary uncovered in Kleinburg in 1970. Farm fields gave way to one of the GTA's largest cities.
