Belleville - Quinte West

Moira River meets the Bay of Quinte

Belleville - Quinte West in brief

Belleville sits at the mouth of the Moira River on the Bay of Quinte, the urban hub of Hastings County even though it runs its own city hall. Early names told the story of who showed up first: Singleton's Creek, then Meyer's Creek after mill builder John Walden Meyers.

An 1816 visit by Sir Francis Gore and Lady Annabella Gore stuck. The place was renamed Belleville in her honour, and later boosters like Henry Corby helped turn mills and trade into a lasting town on Lake Ontario's eastern shore.
