Truro

End of the water's flow

Truro in brief

Truro anchors Colchester County on the Salmon River floodplain where the river meets Cobequid Bay. Mi'kmaq people called the area Wagobagitik, end of the water's flow, and still live nearby at Millbrook.

Acadian settlers shortened the name to Cobequid and farmed here in the early 1700s until the Expulsion. New England Planters and later railway builders remade the crossroads into the Hub of Nova Scotia, a nickname Truro still answers to when highways and trains meet downtown.
