Credit River shores become a lakeshore city

Mississauga in brief

Mississauga lines the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario in Peel Region, between Toronto and Oakville. With more than 700,000 residents it is Canada's seventh-most populous municipality and the GTA's second city after Toronto.

Archaeological sites along the Credit River and Cooksville Creek show Archaic-period camps at the rapids. Hanlan's Corner Cemetery is a quiet remnant of earlier settlement tucked inside today's suburban grid.
