Burlington in brief

Burlington sits at the west end of Lake Ontario in Halton Region, between Hamilton and Oakville. John Graves Simcoe named Burlington Bay in 1792, and Mohawk chief Joseph Brant settled the Brant Tract around 1802; the city still marks Joseph Brant Day each August.

Founded as a town in 1874 and a city in 1974, it grew into one of Canada's larger municipalities. In Hendrie Park Gardens, Martimas's Grave keeps an unusual racehorse memorial among the plantings.
