From Buffy's Corners to Fall Fair city

Brampton in brief

Brampton grew from Chinguacousy farmland after Treaty 19 in 1818 opened Mississauga of the Credit lands to settlement. By the 1830s the crossroads were Buffy's Corners; John Elliott laid out lots and borrowed the name Brampton from Cumberland, England.

A village fair started in 1853 became today's Brampton Fall Fair, and the place climbed from village to city by 1974. In Mount Pleasant, Ron Baird's Ghost Train sculpture remembers the old CPR station that now works as a library.
