Timmins in brief

Timmins sits along the Mattagami River in Northeastern Ontario, and Tourism Timmins still sells the place on mineral wealth and outdoor seasons in the same breath. Hollinger is the name that keeps the gold-camp past in daily civic talk: the City runs a Hollinger Open Pit feedback page, and the Timmins Museum points visitors to Hollinger House as a historical stop. The museum itself, the National Exhibition Centre on Second Avenue, is where heritage exhibits and community programs share a roof. Algonquin Blvd carries City Hall traffic; Service Timmins is the phone-and-counter brand when something needs fixing.

Downtown Timmins BIA speaks for a few hundred core businesses and fills the calendar with Santa Claus Parade nights, pop-up shops, and urban park gatherings. Porcupine Health Unit keeps the older Porcupine label alive on the municipal directory. Junior hockey fans follow the Timmins Rock; Timmins Transit covers the practical rides across a big northern footprint. Come North is the tourism invitation, honest about latitude without turning the city into brochure fiction.

The Daily Press front mixes ward politics with harder crime files and the occasional heritage-building reuse story, which is the tempo of a working northern city. Mining and mineral-resource talk stays present even when the day's headline is somewhere else on the highway. On the OpenStats City Score for 2026, Timmins sits at rank 119 of 125. Hometown character is Mattagami light on the water, Hollinger names on the map, and a downtown that still throws its own parade.

OpenStats Broadband Download Speeds

OpenStats

Cities ranked by estimated best advertised download (Mbps). Anchored to the current ISED National Broadband Data vintage, then backcast along a national speed curve with city-specific fiber-arrival and 50/10 availability paths so relative ranks can change over the decade. Not a claim of audited historical hex maps for every year.

OpenStats City Score

OpenStats

Dimensional average of OpenStats open-data pillars for each panel year 2016–2025: tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, population growth, and crime severity. Each series is scored 0–1 within its edition; series in the same pillar are averaged, then all eight pillars are averaged with equal weight. Missing pillars score at median standing (0.5). Growth and CSI use StatCan annual tables; permits, mill rates, and broadband use live rows plus documented year-varying estimates where needed. Radon, water, and PGA may be survey/model vintages carried forward and are flagged when static for more than two years. External commercial livability lists are never inputs.
