Thunder Bay is Northwestern Ontario's largest city on Lake Superior, formed from the older ports of Port Arthur and Fort William. Anishinaabe peoples lived here first; French fur posts came in the late 1600s, and the North West Company built Fort William in 1803.
From town, the Sibley Peninsula's cliffs look like a giant asleep on his back, once voted among Canadians' Seven Wonders. The Terry Fox Monument marks the spot where Fox ended his cross-Canada run.
