Sault Ste. Marie

Rapids city on the St. Marys River

Sault Ste. Marie in brief

Sault Ste. Marie faces its Michigan twin across the St. Marys River, a manufacturing and tourism hub on the route between Lakes Huron and Superior. Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi peoples shared the rapids long before French posts arrived in the 1600s.

Steel, locks, and the International Bridge keep the border busy. Agawa Canyon trains, the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, and the Sault Canal locks give visitors three classic northern stops.
