Where one hears a noise like this
Petawawa is Renfrew County's most populous municipality in the Ottawa Valley, with deep Algonquin roots. The name comes from biidaawewe, often rendered as where one hears a noise like this, a nod to the river's sound.
Early correspondence used Petawawa by 1907 as the spelling settled. The town grew beside the military training area that still defines much of daily life along the Ottawa River.
