Orillia

Where Couchiching meets Lake Simcoe

Orillia in brief

Orillia sits at the Narrows between Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe, about 30 kilometres northeast of Barrie in Huronia. Marine archaeology there shows fishing weirs used by Huron and Iroquois people more than 4,000 years ago.

Incorporated as a village in 1867, the single-tier city still gathers around Champlain's monument and a waterfront that has been a meeting place for trade, fishing, and travel for thousands of years.
