Essa in brief

Essa Township sits west and south of Barrie in Simcoe County, about 100 kilometres from Toronto, bounded by County Roads 90 and 27 and Highway 89. Agriculture, especially potato farming, still defines the countryside around Angus, Thornton, and Baxter.

Incorporated in 1850 and reshaped in 1991 when Thornton Police Village joined, Essa also lives next door to CFB Borden, one of Canada's oldest military airfields and a major training base that brings many Francophone families to the area.
