Brantford

Telephone City on the Grand River

Brantford in brief

Brantford sits on the Grand River on the Haldimand Tract, named for Mohawk leader Joseph Brant, whose people forded the river here after the American Revolutionary War. Nearby Six Nations of the Grand River is Canada's most populous reserve.

Locals still call it the Telephone City for Alexander Graham Bell's work in town. Mohawk Chapel, built in 1785, is Ontario's oldest surviving church and one of only three Royal Chapels outside the United Kingdom.
