Charlottetown in brief

Charlottetown is Prince Edward Island's capital, named for Queen Charlotte and incorporated as a city in 1855. French settlers from Louisbourg founded Port La Joye across the harbour in 1720 before the British built the present townsite.

In 1864 the Charlottetown Conference gathered colonial leaders for the first serious talks that led to Confederation. Today the waterfront still hosts Province House tours by day and boardwalk crowds by night, with Victoria Park's storied Dead Man's Pond a short stroll away.
