Statistics Canada released 2025 police-reported crime on July 22, 2026 in The Daily. Canada's Crime Severity Index fell 5% to 75.0, while the Moncton census metropolitan area posted CSI 105.6, up 11% from 2024. That increase ranked among the largest CMA rises nationally, alongside Saint John at +20% and Brantford and London at +8%, per Table 4.

OpenStats maps Moncton to the Codiac Regional RCMP municipal police-service row for City Score. On the 2025 edition, that service posts CSI 105.63 at rank #29 among 102 placed services. Composite standing is 56.4% at composite rank #71 with six pillars observed. The CMA headline (105.6) and the police-service row (105.63) align closely; OpenStats uses the service boundary for the safety pillar, not the commuting-zone table alone.

What StatCan reported for Moncton CMA

Table 4 lists Moncton at CSI 105.6 with an 11% year-over-year increase and a crime rate of 7,561 per 100,000 population (+6%). Fredericton CMA posted CSI 80.5 (+7%) and Saint John CMA 70.0 (+20%). The release notes that most CMAs recorded declines while Moncton, Saint John, Moncton's Atlantic peers, and a handful of Ontario cities saw increases. OpenStats ingests police-service tables 35-10-0026-01 and 35-10-0063-01 for the crime-severity study; CMA tables provide context for desk copy but do not replace service-level rows on City Score.

What to watch on OpenStats

When Statistics Canada releases 2026 police-reported tables, watch whether Codiac's CSI moves off 105.63 and how rank #29 shifts. Pair that with population growth rank #13 after the next CSD estimate. Construction standing will move only when a verified municipal permit feed maps to Moncton. Radon at 81.4 Bq/m³ and hardness at 277 mg/L sit on other pillars.
